These were both my original storyboards, but after filming the trailer the storyboard changed dramatically because of reasons like adjusting the scene because new ideas whilst filming or some scenes was impossible to film basically experiencing the effects of making a trailer. More scenes were added into our trailer to make it more interesting and also once filmed and watched some scenes were deleted and replaced by new ones. Mostly sound was changed because using Google to find free non-copyrighted sounds we were able to find tons of horror sounds which we played around with to make the trailer better then before. This storyboard just shows what the beginning of our production of the trailer but represents the complexed role of creating a trailer keeping it to the storyline and making it a horror.
This video shows us holding a meeting about our film ideas to a focus group, the video isn't good and is corrupted so I suggest you listen to the video.
The focus group was helpful in many ways, they were able to judge on the name of the film 'Social Killer' and also look at our drafts and decide which one was best this allowed us to make the best outcome for the public even if we may of liked the idea the public may of disliked it so this gave us outside perspective on our ideas.

Adobe Photoshop was a main program for me to use, this was to create the poster and gives the effects of a horror genre and also to create the magazine front cover, it being a specialist editing program it was best for me to use in order to create the two ancillary tasks. This program allowed me to create both my poster and magazine with the effects to make it suggest that the film is a horror to attract the target audience.
For my poster it was very useful for creating my horror poster, I was able to smudge the text to create my very own font and gave the hint of a ghostly presence given an idea of the killer and could also use the smudge tool to drag the blood making it seem like it was dripping, and the title 'Social Killer' I used the text effects that Photoshop has to offer such as the shadow, inner shadow, outer glow and stroke effects these effects were made to boost the idea of what is the killer but this also made the title stand out more. It also was useful because I was able to make the image darker to my liking, with the darkness and the use of colours this surely helped because the audience are able to look at this poster and tell straight away by the conventions that this is a horror.
Photoshop also helped with creating my magazine, I used my poster as a free poster if the magazine was brought to use up more space it helped by giving me image effects by making it look like it wasn't just glued onto the page but gave a more professional look too. It was also helpful in positioning the text and images to my liking to allow thing's such as my main image's knife be viewed by the audience (before It was changed the text was at the side) allowing me to put the focus on the knife for the audience to get idea's of what genre the image is, and yet again it helped by giving me text effects such as colour transparency. Having used Photoshop last year's Media AS coursework, I was able to quickly jump on the computer and effectively use my time without learning the techniques for Photoshop.
Windows movie maker is a program that allows the user to create movies, I was able to use this program to create my trailer it was a disadvantage for me because I have never used this program before so learning it took time, when I did get through the barrier then I was able to use it purposes such as cutting clips to shorten time and copy and paste clips.
I used it's tool which allows the user to create titles in the trailer which gave the plot of the story to the audience so they know whats the problem (Social networks) and lastly I was able to add sound in for the crucial part of the element of that it's a horror and to create the scary effect in order to make the trailer a success, it helped me with the conventions that are included within a horror trailer, it could be better if better software for editing was available but their weren't so Windows Movie Maker was are only option because when watching other school's media student trailers their software obviously made a huge difference in making their trailer better.
Using blogger to upload my A2 media coursework for it to be marked and reviewed easier and properly quicker, also receiving feedback by comments made on my posts to improve certain areas for a higher mark, also was very helpful viewing work from student's in my class to view the standards of the work and help me gain more of a understanding of the task. It was difficult at first learning to use blogger and their are times where it becomes frustrating to use like when it wasn't allowing me to post work or upload images.
An obvious choice to research, I was able to search up movies to watch for ideas and set a standard what must be expected in a horror it also was good to use to search up horror posters to analysis to view the conventions of a horror poster and also for magazine covers and trailers, by looking at real media products I was able to create my media products with the conventions the real media products have shown in order to make my media products like professional. It was also helpful in collecting images such as the bar code for my magazine and the warning scene on my trailer, along with the images I also used it to find non-digetic sound for my trailer it helped me in finding a website which would let me download music which was not copyrighted and free. Google was mainly what I used in order to research for the trailer and also gain the other things as mentioned this was a big help and contributed better then any other program I used.
I used a camera and a tripod for my trailer, the camera obviously allowed me to view the trailer at first I had to learn how to use it but wasn't hard to use it after learning how to, the tripod helped in order to maintain the balance and prevent the camera from shaking which would give a amateur look which I am not intending to do or trying to make a hand held film, it also helped by letting me do the techniques used in films such as panning, tilting and etc. I was able to adjust the height of the tripod as well so this allowed me to do camera shots at different heights such as low angle shot.
YouTube is a website which allows people to upload videos for others to watch and comment/rate, for me I was able to upload my trailer onto YouTube and others could watch and give feedback, it was also used to find trailers of real movies which I could then watch to view the speed of scenes or camera shots and angles used in a horror, this gave a few ideas in which I included into my trailer such as the warning scene at the beginning. Even ideas that wasn't included were found from YouTube, I searched up a old pop song called 'Turn around, look at me' which let me listen to the song to see if it's a good idea to include.
The combination of my products all work together, to help promotion of Social Book (the movie). Firstly my poster gives a hint of what the movie is about with a social network site (Facebook) displayed on a bloody phone by a hand covered in blood, this is to show our story that is social networking is killing people showing the power social networks have and the dangers of it. Secondly my magazine front cover I specially made a horror scheme to show off the main image that is Social Book and linked my poster onto my front cover as a ‘free poster inside’, the trailer will be made aware of when my poster and magazine front cover promotes the film, the audience will then view the trailer in order to know what it is and then can declare interest into the film.
Both of my ancillary tasks will be used to promote Social Book in a thought out way to attract as many people as possible, and so the internet will be the main choice to attract my audience knowing how popular the internet is, a Facebook page can be made to advertise the trailer and poster (poster can be printed out) also a twitter page would mainly be liking to be a trending topic also, attacking the two main social networking sites to distribute both poster and trailer aiming worldwide as well as nationally also advertising mainly through social networking sites links in with the story.
The poster can be displayed publicly in the underground and also in popular locations like South Bank, Central of Manchester etc and post onto billboards I think all three ideas will target the majority of the public and then relaying on socialising and social networks to get the films awareness around the audience. Whilst the trailer will be watched on YouTube and social network sites like any normal trailer would (being available to watch on all devices) All these should target the age range that I am proposing this movie to which is 16 – 25 but obviously this movie should appeal to over 25, being available online is a easy and free way to advertise to my audience and gaining the more busy and older types who do not use the internet will be able to view the advertisement in the most popular areas throughout England.
For my A2 Media coursework I have created a poster, magazine front cover and a trailer these are the three things that will be used to advertise the movie to the audience, online users will be more informed about the movie because of the trailer will be uploaded to YouTube and will have a created Facebook and Twitter page to get social network users informed of this movie which is quite relative to social networking. Posters will get the eyes of the viewers and will require them to research the rest and also magazine front covers will inform readers, all three of these will help promote the movie and target my audience effectively.
I have aimed to target the audience by advertising and promoting the movie by using magazine’s, posters and a trailer the obvious purpose of me creating these is to create an awareness to the audience and getting them wanting to see the movie, by creating these I had to understand the conventions of a horror genre in order to create the horror effect.

Both contain date, title, tagline, main image showing it is a poster to the audience’s eyes.
Both showing a murder or about to murder also both showing the weapon used to kill.
Poster’s conventions are both placed in the same place following the rules expect for my tagline.
I also watched different genres such as Inception, the poster shows things not to include on a horror poster such as a gang with guns wearing suits this doesn’t apply that it is a horror but action.
Also in a public area where it properly is safest because of other people wondering the streets, but I can look at the conventions it has used to create a poster and use the way it has been created following the conventions.
For the magazine I had to review yet again a horror and one which isn’t so I can gain an idea of what to do and not to do but also gain a good understanding the conventions of a magazine front cover.
The Impact magazine shows the conventions of a horror magazine by the main image and also the use of blood that has been mixed with the words, the main colours are red and black showing the conventions of horror by using the primary colours and also when read the words such as ‘Vampires’ ‘Spooks’ ‘Bloody Good Show’ giving it the horror effect, it also is following all the conventions expect for the barcode. When reviewing the FourFourTwo magazine it is quite clear the colours used isn’t horror and the way it is laid out, the main image shows one person obviously the main story is about him but all magazine conventions are being followed correctly helping my knowledge on a magazine front cover.
And lastly the trailer, I picked The Exorcist trailer to watch because of how popular it is as a horror movie and also Psych 9 a more new horror trailer. The Exorcist shows a slower trailer to Psych 9 which is faster I think it is to meet today’s horror demands and back when The Exorcist was made horror was still evolving. This shows horror can be filmed in different ways with either tempo or even different killers, props and etc as long as it suggests it is a horror trailer.
The conventions are an important role for the audience eyes to understand what they are viewing, I followed all the conventions and never tried to move away from them and so should the media products should be easy for all of my audience to view and know what it is.
Death chainmail has been round since mail has been sent to mailboxes, unresolved murderers happening around the world everyday with no evidence or cause... Technology advanced, people were able to communicate over the World Wide Web in 1950’s and ever since our technology advanced allowing us to socialise, nearly every household owns a computer, but ever since technology has advanced so has death chainmail, from letters it moved to emails and then onto IM’s, but now onto socialising websites and thousands disappear with no cause or evidence and is put into a top classified folder. However a child of the dad in the M16 gets their hands on the folder and turns into child’s play.

‘September 11, 2011 a bad day for Americans as terrorist attack the twin towers leading in many deaths and injury’s, but ever since that day death chainmail has appear out of nowhere causing mystery deaths World Wide by Internet, some say it’s just a hoax, others say it’s to scare others for the fun of it, but only I know it’s the people who died in 9/11 creating these death chainmail’s I have researched the IP address and it is coming from that exact location but there are no networks there, how is this possible, why are they doing this, I will find out myself and end this mass murdering chainmail.’

It was only a joke, someone I knew from another school sent me it everyone in school read the message after I sent it to five people, and them five sent it to twenty five until everyone had read this message, there are 568 students, 565 have forwarded this message to other schools, leaving three students to face their most feared, death. But can they escape death?
Most popular to our media focus group was the second idea about the 9/11 incidient and then death chain mails happening, so I would guess our group would go with that idea being the most popular choice, the scenario may be changed throughout our project to our liking and to make it more interesting for our audience.
Speaking about our scenarios to the focus group the second idea about the 9/11 incident relating to death chain mails seemed to be at their best interest for a background story, so deciding on going with that idea hopefully unless changes our made the most related monster would be spirits would be the greatest monster to go with, so the deaths of 9/11 would of unleashed spirits in that area where they died and so somehow sending off death chain mails in order to kill others but no one knows for what purpose.
Spirits are a presence you feel, there are many types of them but ours will be dangerous and haunting spirits possibly even a ghoul which is a spirit but craves for human flesh and is classified with the undead a ghoul which does relate to our scenario, or a spirit intending to cause harm is a cacodemon with is assumed to be a demon in modern terms but is still a spirit, but at the moment it's a just a spirit that kills maybe we could even possibly come up with a new spirit?
Now abandoning the 9/11 idea because it isn't a selling movie, were still sticking to spirits but now we have had to come a new scenario, it will still be the same plot as our 9/11 idea but changing the event to something made up so we can make this event and location spooky to our liking and have some sort of story to this place, still including all the IP Address and death chain mails somehow coming from there.
Since horror was created many different branches to horror expanded, like The Birds made nature out of control sub genre, and so since horror was made many others have joined the sub-genres of horror.

There are many more of sub-genres related to horror there will properly always be new ones added onto the list in future and some are more favorites then others, sub-genres are there to describe what type of horror the horror film is.
The Ring poster analysed, straight away you look at this poster and there isn't much to tell from imagery expect for a black background representation darkness trying to give the impression of a horror genre, and the white ring including the words 'Before you die, you see' already telling us the technique used to kill people is when they see the ring but the mystery still remains, how does it kill? what kills people? Questions that the audience must find out in watching the movie itself, and also the comma between the sentence is that to emphasise on the scary effect or to take a breath before reading 'you see' it's kind of like taking your last breath when being frightened, the way it's laid out to me gives the impression that you will die if you see the ring firstly the audience reads top to bottom reading the 'Before you die you see' and then looking at the image of the ring and then nothing visually expect for information I don't know if they done that on purpose but seems like a great idea to put across the seeing the ring will kill you, the ring is quite blurry and has white lines going across it (I'm trying to look at it like I have never seen this movie) it does seem to add that bit more scary effect it seems like a ghostly white ring to me, notice the writing of the ring there's no capitals for the first word or second and it looks handwritten is that a clue to the mystery? The age of the person or a uneducated person or even both? And again the font looks ghostly something will a non-human presence it seems, this poster raises a load of questions that much be answered viewing the film that's the way the ring attracts their audience by making it a mystery to the audience.
The Horror Timeline contains many great horror events such as Frankenstein which was written in 1818 by Mary Shelley, obviously a horror classic! And Dracula written in 1897 by Bram Stoker, two horror classics which were made in to films and made horror history, And America in the late 1910's made cinemas after the First World War profits from selling ammunition and etc and then the horror movie timeline began.
1920's - Nothing spectacular appeared for the horror genre expect for the first ever vampire film Nosferatu which was very similar to Dracula who could blame them for trying to copy the Dracula story.
1930's - Horror started.. 80 million went to the cinema on a weekly basis that was 65% of the US population, in 1931 Dracula was made, King Kong in 1933 and then the Bride of Frankenstein in 1935 horror finally appeared to show it's true colours.
1940's - Horror fell, it was only a America genre trying to expand but refused by others it wasn't horrors year or 10 years, The Wolf Man made in 1941 and a year later Cat Woman appeared to make a profit of $4m, the genre of horror needed a boost.
1950's - Again, Horror struggled to come on top but down on bottom the WW2 has ended and Horror advancing to make coloured films, Godzilla a horror classic made in 1954, I Was A Teenage Frankenstein made in 1957 I would expect Hammer studio made (sequel) and The Tingler in 1959.
1960's - Horror experimenting to create gold, Horror seems back on track and is making a hit straight away to the early 1960's, Psycho made in 1960, The Birds was made in 1963 (Nature gone out of control), Blood Feast, horror looks horrific once again.
1970's - Horror on top form as horror got horrific! In 1973 the scariest movie voted The Exorcist the true definition of the horror genre, Jaws made in 1975 (Nature out of control expanding from The Birds), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre made in 1974 and then in 1978 Halloween was created a great 10 years for Horror.
1980's - Technology has finally become advanced enough to show the Horror lovers what they want, The American Werewolf in London made in 1981, A Nightmare on Elm St created in 1984 a great horror classic and Fright Night made in 1985, the horror genre is now a popular genre for movies.
1990's - Being scared turnt in to gory bloody mess (All Final Destination's & SAW) a good example but 1990's was a different time for Horror, Jacob's Ladder made in 1990, Se7en created in 1995 and then Scream made in 1996 another horror classic in our day and age.
2000's - At the beginning of 2000 Horror was hard to sell because of 9/11 no one was interested in the horror genre at this time but wasn't long before this popular genre repopulated with interest from it's horror lovers, Final Destination created in 2000 and 5 sequels later made in 11 years time, 28 Days Later created in 2002 and The Grudge in 2004, Horror is a fantiasque (Quote from the French in 1950's) genre but for the future will it keep raising or will it run out of ideas and drop?
For me personally, It sounds that 1970's was the time to be alive to watch all it's horrors or even in the 1930's where people have never witnessed horror movies and experienced this new fright they dont have in reality, and my guess for the badest time for Horror was in the 1950's.
I think the new version of the trailer is better but the orginal will do, voted the scariest horror, enjoy.
