Horror Posters

                  Dawn of the Dead

As you can see there is a blurry horde of zombies walking toward us with the quote 'When there's no more room in Hell, The dead will walk the earth', the colours are quite unique in how they used them I found it quite interesting, the colours are red, orange and yellow and as you can see its sunset in the background and bloody marks on the bottom corners I think the message they've brought to us is its the end of light and darkness has arrived, darkness representing the zombies, and also the blurry vision of the zombies does that maybe represent you wont see them coming also their feet are unnoticeable I think that means you wont hear them either so as from this poster it tells the film will have jumpy scenes with unexpected frights to scare the audience.

    A Nightmare on Elm Street

A classic remade in 2010, A man standing behind a girl who appears to be sunken into the floor, the claw has been focused on to appear on the poster with light reflecting of it to bring attention to his weapon to show his killer, the title Nightmare on Elm Street and the message 'He knows where you sleep' obviously links together to show his power is to enter dreams and turn them into nightmares and because of the claw showing his a killer maybe he can kill people in their dreams, even in the most safest place is exposed to danger taking horror to a new level! Look at how both characters are positioned, the man is behind the girl showing the element of surprise so again like Dawn of the dead it has unexpected scenes looking to frighten the audience and the colour red is used a lot by the looks of it in horror posters to symbolise blood both posters have red in them to show their is deaths in the films, also very importantly the lighted door is behind the man I think this film is about confronting your nightmare in order to get past it to exit your nightmare in order to overcome it.

                                                                                                   Dracula

An old classic Dracula, featuring a stereotypical vampire with his hair gelled back and combed thick eyebrows and big pointy fangs, one main thing you can see is blood dripping down and like all the other posters I have looked at it contains red the colour of blood, this was made in 1943 this explains the amount of writing and also a innocent female who is the victim of Dracula and also explains the black and white colour scheme but they made sure the colour of blood was noticed on the poster to show the horror lovers they will get their blood that they want, theres not much to say about this poster you can obviously tell Dracula a vampire goes around sucking blood out of female victims (because they were seen as weak in 1940's) and eventually he is stopped by a traditional wooden pointy object or gets away with it, but maybe just like the other posters the element of surprise is also in this film notice the female her human instincts to go into defence mode because she has been surprised by Dracula.

All three posters share the colour red which represents the colour of blood this is a very old way of showing it is a horror just like you see in Dracula which was made in 1943 all the way to 2010 in Nightmare on Elm Street and also the element of surprise looks like a old technique used in almost all horrors to scare the audience to give them that pleasure of being scared it's one of the main things horror lovers go to view these horrors to experience that fright, and lastly every poster has a monster or murderer if it didn't it would not be called a horror!
